Welcoming Your Kitten Home

Bringing home a Maine Coon kitten is exciting, but preparation is key. These highly social, intelligent cats need space, stimulation, and lots of love.

Kitten-proofing your home Before your Maine Coon kitten arrives, it’s important to kitten-proof your home to keep them safe and prevent damage, These curious cats love to explore, so take a cat’s-eye view of each room.

Start by securing electrical cords with cord protectors or hiding them behind furniture. Maine Coons may chew on wires, which is both dangerous and destructive.

Remove any small items, string-like objects, or rubber bands they might swallow. Keep household cleaners, medications, and toxic plants (like lilies or philodendrons) out of reach or locked away.Use baby gates or closed doors to limit access to areas where kittens shouldn’t roam unsupervised.
Make sure all windows and balconies are securely screened, as Maine Coons are strong and may push through weak barriers. Anchor bookshelves or unstable furniture to prevent tipping if your kitten decides to climb.

Set up a designated “safe zone” for your kitten with their litter box, food and water bowls, and a comfy bed. This gives them a place to retreat as they adjust to their new environment. Add scratching posts,
climbing trees, and toys to keep them entertained and redirect natural behaviors.
